Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales is a Welsh Government sponsored body that comprises seven museums in Wales focusing on art and science exhibitions as well as interactive experiences and talks. Combined, the seven national museums in the Amgueddfa Cymru family attract visitors in excess of 1.9 million people any given year.
Direct Access is working with Amgueddfa Cymru – National Museum Wales to undertake accessibility audits of all seven museums plus the National Collections Centre. Each site will be visited over the next few months to review accessibility following Part M of Building Regulations (Welsh Government) and British Standards BS 8300:2018. Direct Access will be providing a trilingual approach to audit reports with Welsh, English, and Sign Language versions.
National Museum Wales are thoroughly committed to improving access for disabled people throughout their museums to provide inclusive visitor experiences for everyone.

Direct Access are very much looking forward to visiting the seven museums:
- National Museum Cardiff – formerly the National Museum of Wales
- St Fagans National Museum of History, Cardiff
- Big Pit National Coal Museum, Blaenavon
- National Wool Museum, Dre-fach Felindre near Llandysul
- National Slate Museum, Llanberis
- National Roman Legion Museum, Caerleon
- National Waterfront Museum, Swansea

As part of our work with NMW we will also deliver improved access for Neurodivergent disabled people through our work with Sensory Access. Amgueddfa Cymru are leading the way with increased awareness of Neurodivergent access issues and were keen to engage with us to provide improved visitor information and accessibility consistently at all of their museums.
Direct Access are relishing the opportunity to work with Amgueddfa Cymru on this project and have been encouraged and impressed by the knowledge, experience and appetite for accessibility and inclusive design amongst museum management teams.
