Direct Access wins large school access audit contract for numerous schools within Oxfordshire

This week Direct Access and its team of NRAC Certified Access Consultants have won a contract to provide numerous access audits for schools throughout Oxfordshire. We will be providing access audits as well as assisting the schools with compiling their updated accessibility plans.

From September 2014 all schools were required to have an accessibility plan in place. As part of an accessibility plan, schools must have also had an access audit undertaken.

The Special Educational Needs and Disability Code of Practice states – ‘All schools have duties under the Equality Act 2010 towards individual disabled children and young people. They must make reasonable adjustments, including the provision of auxiliary aids and services for disabled children, to prevent them being put at a substantial disadvantage’

Access audits for schools undertaken by Direct Access follow the Ofstead Framework. Section 8 of the framework for school inspections states that Ofsted will be looking at ‘the extent to which the education provided by the school meets the needs of the pupils at the school and in particular the needs of disabled pupils and those who have special educational needs.’ This relates directly to the Equality Act of 2010.
